Premier Football Tuition (PFT) was very fortunate to have had Jack Robinson, the academy goalkeeper coach from Manchester United FC, visit Melbourne and PFT for two weeks for our goalkeepers coaching and development.
Whilst Jack was in Melbourne he got to work with over 150 goalkeepers from the PFT goalkeeper academy, local schools, local clubs and private sessions. Jack also visited the Albury/Wodonga region where PFT has a development zone established and worked here with over 40 goalkeepers, including some people coming from as far as Leeton and Wagga.
The visit by Jack Robinson, and other professional coaches who have visited in the past eight years, is a great opportunity for the local goalkeeper talent to work and be taught by a professional goalkeeper coach from one of the biggest clubs in the world. The quality of coaching Jack brought into every session was a reflection of his experience of working in the academy set up at Manchester United FC where he works predominantly with the U20’s to U9’s goalkeepers. Jack’s experience with the first team goalkeepers at Manchester United, David De Gea and Victor Valdes, also enabled Jack to bring some advanced coaching techniques to the young groups of goalkeepers he visited whilst he was here.
Jack worked with many goalkeepers from the PFT academy and I am pleased to say he liked what he saw. The PFT goalkeeper coaching program fitted in very well to the type of coaching delivered by himself at Manchester United FC. The work PFT has done over the last 10 years to align our coaching style and methodology to the Best Practices in the world, supported by senior world class goalkeeper coach Eric Steele, was very visible to Jack and this feedback was very welcomed.

Jack completed five days of coaching clinics with PFT where over 20 goalkeeper spots where filled each day. Even with a high workload, each goalkeepers enjoyed some valuable time of working and learning with Jack, which included some important video discussion of world class goalkeepers and then the practical work on the football field. Feedback from all goalkeepers was great and everybody thoroughly enjoyed working and learning from Jack.
PFT and Jack Robinson also provided three x 1hour FREE goalkeeper sessions that over 35 goalkeepers attended and enjoyed immensely.
The benefits of bringing over professional goalkeeper coaches like Jack Robinson are huge. The PFT goalkeepers have a great opportunity to learn from the best goalkeeper practices in the world and it is also a fantastic opportunity for the eight PFT coaches to rub shoulders with a high level goalkeeper coach and learn. It was great to see all of the PFT coaches spending so much time withJack, notebooks in hand and learning from Jack’s experience and knowledge.
Jack’s trip to Melbourne culminated in the formal dinner on his behalf, attended by over 80 guests in which many members, parents and guests of PFT had the opportunity to thank Jack for coming all this way and helping us all, goalkeepers and coaches, to improve.
PFT is planning a trip to the UK and Spain in September 2015 and we look forward to seeing Jack again, hopefully at Manchester United FC where our PFT members will have another opportunity to learn from an amazing coach.

Looking ahead, PFT’s goalkeeper development program is ongoing, every week, in 2015 and we have trips planned to the UK in September 2015 and April 2016. We also have a January 2016 five day dedicated goalkeeper camp planned (venue TBC) and other great events such as our Keepa Wars Day (Oct 2015) and a Trivia Night (Aug 2015).
